Digital profile fraud involves creating entirely fictitious identities by combining real data (often stolen) with fabricated information.
Tinexta InfoCert and identifAI have entered into a partnership to protect users’ digital identities.
In just the first three months of 2025, there has been a 19% global increase in deepfake incidents compared to the total recorded throughout 2024 (ZeroThreat, 2025 Statistics).
Rome, 17 February 2026 - Using AI to create and modify highly realistic “synthetic” digital identities through authentic video and audio that faithfully replicate a specific voice, facial features, and movements. The identity created through this “hybrid” fraud does not correspond to any real person but instead combines data from multiple genuine digital identities.
To unmask deepfakes, Tinexta InfoCert, a leading digital identity service provider and European “Qualified Trust Service Provider,” has partnered with identifAI, an Italian startup founded by Marco Ramilli and Marco Castaldo. identifAI uses an innovative technology platform based on “degenerative” artificial intelligence.
Combining and overlaying existing images and videos with original content using machine learning techniques is known in industry terminology as a “generative adversarial network.”
Globally, the first quarter of 2025 alone saw a 19% increase in deepfake incidents (where one person’s appearance is replaced with another’s) compared to the total number of fraud cases in all of 2024 (ZeroThreat, 2025 Statistics). Deepfakes now account for 40% of all biometric fraud attempts involving fake photos and audio (Entrust, Identity Fraud Report 2025). The financial and banking sector is particularly targeted: in 2024, 53% of financial professionals reported fraud attempts involving manipulated images and videos (ZeroThreat, 2025 Statistics).
“We are proud that our technology,” said Marco Ramilli, Founder of identifAI, “which can verify the authenticity of images and videos and detect digital impersonation attempts, contributes to strengthening the security standards of Europe’s leading certification authority. This is a strategic alliance capable of building trust in remote identity tools at a time when counterfeiting and deepfakes are accessible to everyone. For us, it is also a major success that will give significant visibility to identifAI’s innovative product, which we are confident will deliver important results.”
“The collaboration with IdentifAI represents a further step forward in our commitment to ensuring the highest levels of security and reliability in digital identity processes,” said Igor Marcolongo, Business Evolution Director of Tinexta InfoCert. “In a context where advances in artificial intelligence are making fraud and impersonation threats increasingly sophisticated, it is essential to integrate advanced technologies capable of recognizing and combating deepfakes. This partnership strengthens the resilience of our systems and consolidates our role as a European benchmark for secure digital identity.”
The technological integration of the identifAI platform enables Tinexta InfoCert to remotely verify users’ digital identities during onboarding (remote digital registration of accounts for managing administrative, banking, insurance procedures, etc.), “unmasking” attempts to impersonate others and obtain fake credentials or steal genuine ones. The software developed by IdentifAI can detect artificial images, helping to deter false impersonation attempts.
identifAI is an Italian startup that has developed an innovative technology platform based on “degenerative” artificial intelligence, capable of determining with high probability whether an image or video was generated by AI or created by a human, enabling users to understand what they are observing. Through proactive solutions and advanced AI technologies, IdentifAI promotes the integrity of creative expression and provides tools to appreciate both human and artificial contributions. It is also designed to support digital security and combat disinformation through image verification.
In July 2025, identifAI announced a €5 million funding round led by United Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on technology startups. This followed a previous €2.2 million investment less than a year earlier, reflecting a shared commitment to developing technologies to counter the malicious use of deepfakes and promote a transparent and secure information environment.
